WHEATLAND, Yuba County — November 6, 2026. Wheatland’s November 3 municipal ballot has three candidates for two at-large City Council seats: Shaun Clearwater, Tony Lopez and David Pesenti. This newsroom confirmed the field using the City of Wheatland election information and the compiled candidate guide. The county’s first night reported all its precincts, but the official canvass continues. We have not independently verified a numeric Wheatland council candidate tally from the latest Yuba County results document, so this article does not invent vote totals or name a winner.

Two positions, not a single mayoral election

The candidates are competing for two four-year council terms, and eligible voters may select up to two people. The eventual two highest eligible selections will determine the reported leading slate, subject to canvass and applicable election procedures. This is not a separate citywide ballot for mayor, and some Yuba County residents outside Wheatland do not vote for this council at all.

Candidate backgrounds

The local candidate guide describes Lopez as having served on the Wheatland Union High School Board for about 12 years and Pesenti as a former planning commissioner appointed to the Wheatland City Council in 2026. Clearwater is listed on the city’s qualified candidate field. These biographical details do not establish the candidates’ positions on current council issues or their vote percentages.

How residents can check the count

The Yuba County Elections Office lists results releases at 8 p.m., 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on November 3, with all precincts initially reporting by its final election-night update. Its site explains that valid mailed ballots, provisional ballots, the one-percent manual tally and polling-place reconciliation are part of the later canvass. All precincts reporting does not mean the election has been certified.

What comes next for Wheatland

The council oversees city budgets, local roads, public infrastructure, zoning and municipal services. Candidates’ eventual legal status will be determined by Yuba County’s certified result and the city’s applicable election procedures. The city clerk administers Wheatland’s local elections and can provide official candidate and post-election information.
